Occiput

The posterior part of the head or skull, specifically referring to the back of the cranium. This region protects the cerebellum and brainstem, which are vital for motor control and autonomic functions. In developmental studies, the size and shape of the occiput can be an indicator of normal or abnormal fetal development.
