Posterior fossa

A small space in the skull, located in the back and near the bottom, that houses the brainstem and the cerebellum. It is formed by parts of the sphenoid, temporal, and occipital bones and is separated from the cerebrum above by a layer of dura mater called the tentorium cerebelli. The only large opening from this space is the foramen magnum at its base.
