Maximum tolerable dose

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007058

The largest dose of a chemical that causes no deaths among treated test animals, written LD0. It lies below the LD50, the dose lethal to half of the animals, and survivors at this dose may still show sublethal toxicity. It differs from the maximum tolerated dose, which is chosen for chronic studies to produce limited but non-lethal toxicity.
