Neutral loss scan
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007909
A mass spectrometry scanning mode where the mass spectrometer detects all precursor ions that undergo a specific neutral mass loss upon fragmentation. Both the first and second mass analyzers are scanned synchronously, maintaining a constant mass difference between them. This technique is particularly effective for identifying compounds that share a common substructure or functional group, such as the loss of water (18 Da) or carbon dioxide (44 Da).
