Neutralization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007910

The inhibition of the biological activity of a soluble substance or a microorganism, such as a toxin or virus, by the binding of specific antibodies. This antibody binding physically blocks the antigen from interacting with its cellular receptor, preventing it from exerting its effect. In toxicology, neutralization assays are used to measure the capacity of an antiserum to inactivate a specific toxin or virus, quantifying its protective potency.
