Tetanus toxin-binding ganglioside
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013648
A specific type of ganglioside, a glycosphingolipid, found on the surface of neurons that serves as a receptor for tetanus toxin. The toxin binds to these gangliosides, particularly polysialylated gangliosides, allowing it to enter the nerve cells. This binding is an initial step in the neurotoxic mechanism of tetanus.
