Toxoid

A bacterial toxin that has been chemically modified or inactivated so that it loses its toxicity but retains its immunogenicity. This modified toxin can then be used to stimulate an immune response in an individual, providing active immunity against the original toxin. Diphtheria and tetanus vaccines are examples of toxoids.
