Nth-generation product ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013344
An ion formed from the dissociation of an (n-1)th-generation product ion, where n is an integer greater than or equal to 2. This hierarchical fragmentation process is observed in tandem mass spectrometry experiments, where ions undergo multiple stages of dissociation. For example, a second-generation product ion arises from the fragmentation of a first-generation product ion.
