Progenitor ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009519
An ion that undergoes fragmentation to produce other ions in a mass spectrometry experiment. It is the parent ion from which product ions are derived through dissociation processes. In tandem mass spectrometry, the progenitor ion is selected in the first stage of mass analysis before fragmentation.
