Progesterone

A steroid hormone primarily produced by the corpus luteum in the ovary, and by the placenta during pregnancy. It prepares the uterus for pregnancy and maintains gestation by promoting endometrial development and suppressing uterine contractions. Progesterone levels are measured in blood tests to assess ovarian function and pregnancy status.
