Progestin

A synthetic progestogen that mimics the actions of natural progesterone in the body. These compounds bind to progesterone receptors and exert similar effects on target tissues, such as the uterus. Progestins are widely used in hormonal contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy to prevent pregnancy or manage menopausal symptoms.
