Pseudopregnancy

A state in female mammals, notably rodents, in which the body shows hormonal and uterine changes of pregnancy without an embryo, usually after sterile mating or stimulation of the cervix, with a functional corpus luteum secreting progesterone for about 12 to 14 days in the rat. Pseudopregnant females serve as recipients in embryo transfer. The human counterpart is called pseudocyesis.
