Observation pathlength
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008172
The length of the path that a beam of radiation travels through the absorbing or emitting medium, specifically the flame, in atomic spectrometry. According to the Beer-Lambert law, absorbance is directly proportional to this pathlength, so a longer pathlength results in a higher signal and greater sensitivity. For slot burners used in flame atomic absorption, this corresponds to the length of the burner slot and is measured in centimeters.
