Observation height

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013357

The vertical distance from the top surface of a nebulizer-burner system to the center of the volume element of the flame that is being observed by the instrument's optical system. This parameter is adjusted to find the region of the flame that provides the optimal analytical signal for a given element. The optimal observation height varies between elements and is typically specified in millimeters.
