Oligotrophy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008225
The state or condition of an environment, such as an aquatic ecosystem or soil, that is deficient in essential nutrients required for biological growth. This scarcity of nutrients leads to low primary productivity and a limited biomass of organisms. Oligotrophy is often observed in deep, clear lakes with minimal input of organic matter.
