Oligotrophic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008224
Describing an environment, such as a body of water or soil, that is characterized by a low concentration of nutrients. This condition limits the growth of organisms, resulting in low biological productivity. Oligotrophic lakes, for instance, are typically deep, clear, and have high oxygen levels throughout their water column.
