Paradigm

A framework of concepts, theories, methods, and standards that constitutes an accepted approach to a scientific discipline at a particular time. It defines legitimate problems and the range of acceptable solutions within a field of research. A paradigm shift occurs when this dominant framework is replaced by a new one, such as the transition from classical mechanics to quantum mechanics.
