Photonic crystal
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008904
A nanostructured material with a periodic variation in its refractive index, designed to control the flow of light. This periodic structure creates a photonic band gap, analogous to an electronic band gap in semiconductors, which forbids light propagation at certain frequencies. These materials are used in optical filters, waveguides, and sensors.
