Inverse opal

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006053

A three-dimensional porous material with a highly ordered, interconnected network of voids, formed by replicating a colloidal crystal template. The structure consists of a periodic arrangement of air spheres surrounded by a solid material, creating a photonic bandgap. These materials exhibit unique optical properties, such as structural color, and are characterized by their pore size and periodicity, which are determined by the original colloidal spheres.
