Inverse agonist
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006046
A ligand that binds to the same receptor site as an agonist but produces an opposite pharmacological effect by reducing the constitutive activity of the receptor. This action occurs even in the absence of an agonist. Inverse agonists exhibit negative efficacy, meaning they decrease the basal activity of a receptor.
