Photonic yield

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008906

The number of moles of a reactant consumed or a product formed, divided by the number of moles of photons incident on the reactor over a specified time interval. It quantifies the overall efficiency of a photochemical or photocatalytic process with respect to all incoming light, not just the light that is absorbed by the system. This dimensionless quantity is distinct from quantum yield, which considers only the number of absorbed photons rather than the total incident photons.
