Polyimides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009149

A class of high-performance polymers containing the imide functional group, with two acyl groups bonded to a nitrogen atom, as part of their main chain repeating unit. They are known for their exceptional thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, particularly in aromatic forms. Polyimides are synthesized from the reaction of a diamine and a dianhydride, and some have glass transition temperatures exceeding 400 °C.
