Polyimidazole
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009148
A class of polymers where the imidazole ring is a constituent part of the repeating unit in the main polymer chain. These materials exhibit high thermal stability and chemical resistance due to the aromatic nature of the imidazole heterocycle. Polybenzimidazole (PBI) is a well-known example, produced from the condensation of an aromatic bis(o-diamine) and a dicarboxylate, and it does not burn or melt in air.
