Polyions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009150
Macromolecules or colloidal particles that possess multiple ionic charges, which can be either positive or negative. These charges are distributed along the polymer backbone or on the particle's surface, and their electrostatic interactions strongly influence the substance's properties in solution. Naturally occurring examples include proteins and nucleic acids, while synthetic polyelectrolytes are used in applications like water treatment and drug delivery.
