Positron emission tomography
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009297
A nuclear medicine imaging technique that uses radioactive tracers which emit positrons to produce three-dimensional images of functional processes within the body. When a positron annihilates with an electron, two gamma rays are produced in opposite directions, which are detected to localize the tracer. PET scans are widely used in oncology, neurology, and cardiology.
