Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001457

An electron or positron emitted from an atomic nucleus during beta decay, a type of radioactive decay. Beta-minus decay involves the emission of an electron and an antineutrino, while beta-plus decay involves the emission of a positron and a neutrino. Beta particles have a charge of -1e or +1e and are more penetrating than alpha particles but less penetrating than gamma rays.
