Pro-pesticide

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009549

A chemical compound that is not pesticidally active itself but is converted into an active pesticide after application through a chemical or metabolic process. This transformation is designed to occur within the target organism or in the environment. The activation mechanism can involve enzymatic action inside the pest, hydrolysis in water, or photodegradation by sunlight, releasing the toxic agent at the desired site.
