Selenones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010696
Organoselenium compounds with the general formula R-Se(=O)2-R', where two organic groups are attached to a central selenonyl group. They are the selenium analogues of sulfones and represent a high oxidation state for organic selenium compounds. Selenones are powerful oxidizing agents and are prepared by the oxidation of the corresponding selenides or selenoxides, for example, using ozone or peroxy acids.
