Spreading wetting

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011251

A phenomenon where a liquid spreads spontaneously over a solid surface, forming a thin film. This occurs when the adhesive forces between the liquid and solid are stronger than the cohesive forces within the liquid. The extent of spreading is quantified by the spreading coefficient, which must be positive for spontaneous spreading.
