Adhesional wetting
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000248
A wetting process in which a liquid drop or film is brought into contact with a solid so that an adhesional joint forms, replacing the solid-vapour and liquid-vapour surfaces over the contact area by a solid-liquid interface. The Gibbs energy change equals minus the work of adhesion, which is the sum of the two surface tensions minus the solid-liquid interfacial tension. It is distinct from spreading wetting, where the liquid also extends over new area, and from immersional wetting.
