Startle reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011321
A rapid, involuntary physiological and behavioral response to a sudden, intense sensory stimulus, such as a loud noise or a sudden touch. This reflex involves a cascade of muscle contractions, particularly in the neck and trunk, and is mediated by primitive brainstem circuits. It serves as a protective mechanism to prepare the body for potential danger.
