Stop event

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011444

The detection of an ion arrival at the detector in time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry, registered by a time-to-digital converter, which ends a flight-time measurement begun by a start event such as the primary ion pulse. The interval between start and stop events gives the ion's flight time, from which its mass-to-charge ratio follows. Stop events from many pulse cycles are accumulated into a time histogram that forms the mass spectrum.
