Supercritical fluid
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011594
A substance existing at a temperature and pressure exceeding its critical point, the specific threshold where the liquid and gas phases cease to be distinct. In this state, the substance exhibits unique properties, behaving as a gas-like fluid that can diffuse through solids but with the density and solvent power of a liquid. Supercritical carbon dioxide is widely used as a solvent in extraction processes.
