Critical point

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002698

A specific temperature and pressure at which the distinction between liquid and gas phases of a substance disappears, forming a supercritical fluid. Above this point, the substance exists as a single phase with properties intermediate between those of a gas and a liquid. For water, the critical point is approximately 374 °C and 22.1 MPa.
