Critical temperature
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002702
The temperature above which a gas cannot be liquefied by pressure alone, however high the pressure. Above it the kinetic energy of the molecules is too high for intermolecular forces to hold them together as a liquid, so a dense supercritical fluid forms instead. For water the critical temperature is 373.95 °C, equal to 647.10 K.
