Critical micelle concentration
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002691
The concentration of a surfactant in a solution above which micelles spontaneously form. Below this concentration, the surfactant molecules exist predominantly as individual species in solution. This value is characteristic for each surfactant and depends on factors such as temperature, pressure, and the presence of other solutes.
