Hemi-micelle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005190
A small aggregate of surfactant adsorbed at a solid surface, resembling half of a micelle, that forms at bulk concentrations below the critical micelle concentration. On charged oxide surfaces the head groups bind the solid and the chains point into the liquid, whereas on hydrophobic surfaces the chains lie against the solid and the heads face the liquid. It differs from an admicelle, which is a local bilayer.
