Hemins

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013149

A class of iron-containing porphyrin complexes where the iron atom is in the ferric (Fe(III)) oxidation state and is coordinated to a chloride ion. These compounds are derived from heme and are often used in biochemical research. Hemin is a specific example, where the porphyrin is protoporphyrin IX.
