Porphyrinogens
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009287
Reduced, non-aromatic precursors in the biosynthesis of porphyrins, characterized by having six hydrogen atoms more than the corresponding porphyrins. These colorless compounds are intermediates in the metabolic pathway that leads to the formation of heme and chlorophyll. They are readily oxidized to their colored porphyrin counterparts.
