Corrinoids

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002607

A class of macrocyclic compounds characterized by a corrin nucleus, which is a partially reduced tetrapyrrole ring system. These compounds are structurally related to porphyrins but differ in the degree of saturation and the direct linkage between two of the pyrrole rings. Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is the most prominent example of a corrinoid, containing a cobalt ion coordinated within the corrin ring.
