Hemiplegia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005191
Loss of voluntary movement affecting the arm, trunk and leg on a single side of the body. Brain damage, with stroke the leading cause, produces it on the side opposite the lesion since the motor fibres cross over in the brainstem. A hemisection of the cervical spinal cord, in contrast, paralyzes the same side as the injury.
