Time-independent stoichiometry

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012069

A condition in which the stoichiometric equation of a reaction holds at every moment, so reactants are consumed and products formed in the fixed ratio of the equation throughout. It applies when no reactive intermediate builds up to an appreciable amount, as in an elementary reaction. It contrasts with time-dependent stoichiometry, where accumulating intermediates make the equation hold only after they have been consumed.
