Umbilicus

The scar in the middle of the abdominal wall, commonly called the navel, left at the spot where the cord that joined the fetus to the placenta was attached. In the fetus the cord carried blood between the fetus and the placenta. After birth the cord is cut and its stump dries and drops away, leaving the scar.
