Umbilical hernia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012408
A protrusion of abdominal contents, such as intestine or omentum, through a weakness in the abdominal wall at the site of the umbilicus. This condition arises when the umbilical ring, which normally closes after birth, fails to do so completely. It is a common congenital anomaly, particularly in infants, and may resolve spontaneously or require surgical repair.
