Mesogastrium

The embryonic mesentery that suspends the stomach from the posterior abdominal wall. It is a double layer of peritoneum that encloses the stomach and extends to other abdominal organs. During development, the mesogastrium undergoes rotation and fusion, contributing to the formation of the omental bursa and the greater omentum.
