Peritoneal cavity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008660
The potential space between the parietal peritoneum, which lines the abdominal wall, and the visceral peritoneum, which covers the abdominal organs. This cavity contains a small amount of serous fluid that lubricates the surfaces, allowing organs to move freely. It is a common site for fluid accumulation in certain medical conditions, such as ascites.
