Abdominal cavity

The large body cavity in vertebrates that houses most of the digestive organs, as well as the kidneys, spleen, and adrenal glands. It is situated below the thoracic cavity and is separated from it by the diaphragm. The cavity is lined by a serous membrane called the peritoneum, which also covers many of the organs within it.
