Diaphragm
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003132
The domed sheet of muscle and tendon below the lungs that divides the chest from the abdomen in mammals. When it contracts it flattens and enlarges the chest cavity, drawing air in, and when it relaxes the cavity shrinks and air leaves. It receives its nerve supply from the phrenic nerve, which arises from cervical spinal nerves C3 to C5.
