Hernia

The protrusion of an organ or tissue through an abnormal opening or weakness in the wall of the cavity that normally contains it. Common types include inguinal, umbilical, and hiatal hernias, where parts of the intestine or stomach push through weakened abdominal muscles or the diaphragm. Surgical repair is often required to prevent complications such as strangulation.
