Herpes

A group of viral infections caused by herpes simplex viruses (HSV), characterized by outbreaks of painful blisters or sores on the skin or mucous membranes. HSV-1 typically causes oral herpes (cold sores), while HSV-2 is primarily responsible for genital herpes. These viruses establish latency in nerve cells and can reactivate periodically, causing recurrent symptoms.
